Wordlamp: privacy
Last updated 24 October 2026
Wordlamp is an offline dictionary that opens on top of your reading app when you look up a word. It is a small Android app I build on my own
(com.growingpeas.lexicard on Google Play). This page says what it keeps, what leaves
your phone, and why it asks for each permission. The controller is Lawrenza SRL,
trading as Growing Peas; full details are on the legal notice.
What leaves your phone
- Free dictionary downloads. When you ask for one, the app downloads the FreeDict catalogue and the dictionary you chose from
freedict.organddownload.freedict.org. Those servers see your IP address, as any website does; nothing else is sent. - Purchases. The Pro upgrade is a one-time purchase handled by Google Play. Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy; I receive no card details, only the order record Google shares with every developer (order number, product, price and country).
There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no server of mine. The app contains no third-party tracking code.
What stays on your phone
- The dictionaries you add or download, and the folders you allowed the app to read.
- The words you looked up, if you keep a history (Pro).
Android backup is switched off for this app: its data is not copied to your Google account, so uninstalling the app deletes it for good.
Permissions
- Internet: used only for the free dictionary downloads you ask for, and by Google Play for the purchase.
The app never asks for your location, your contacts or access to all your files: it reads only the folder you pick.
Limits of use
Wordlamp is not affiliated with ColorDict, Moon+ Reader, StarDict or FreeDict. Each downloaded dictionary keeps its own licence.
Deleting your data
Everything is on your phone, so you delete it there: in the app, or with Settings, Apps, Wordlamp, Storage, Clear storage, or by uninstalling. I hold no copy to delete. Files you exported or shared stay where you put them.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
