Weighline: privacy
Last updated 7 October 2026
Weighline reads your Bluetooth bathroom scale and keeps your weight history. It is a small Android app I build on my own
(com.growingpeas.scale on Google Play). This page says what it keeps, what leaves
your phone, and why it asks for each permission. The controller is Lawrenza SRL,
trading as Growing Peas; full details are on the legal notice.
What leaves your phone
- Nothing, unless you export it or choose a cloud folder for the automatic backup. There is no server to send it to.
- Purchases. The Pro upgrade is a one-time purchase handled by Google Play. Google processes the payment under its own privacy policy; I receive no card details, only the order record Google shares with every developer (order number, product, price and country).
There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no server of mine. The app contains no third-party tracking code.
What stays on your phone
- Your profiles: name, height, birth year and sex, used to compute estimates.
- Your measurements: weight and, if your scale reports it, body impedance. This is health data, and it stays on the phone.
- A CSV export (Pro), written where you choose.
- The automatic backup (Pro) rewrites your history as a CSV file in a folder you pick. If that folder belongs to a cloud service (Google Drive, Dropbox), the file goes there under that service's terms; I never receive it.
Android backup is on. If you have backup enabled on your phone, Android copies the app's data to your own Google account, as it does for most apps, and restores it on a new phone. That copy is held by Google for you; I have no access to it. You can turn it off in Settings, System, Backup.
Permissions
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to read the scale's broadcasts; declared as never used to find your location. The app never connects to the scale..
- Internet: used only by Google Play for the purchase.
The app never asks for your location, your contacts or your files.
Limits of use
Weighline is a wellness app. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. BMI and body-composition figures are estimates from consumer scales and can be far from a clinical measurement. Talk to a doctor about anything that worries you.
Deleting your data
Everything is on your phone, so you delete it there: in the app, or with Settings, Apps, Weighline, Storage, Clear storage, or by uninstalling. I hold no copy to delete. Files you exported or shared stay where you put them.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
