Choral: privacy

Last updated 29 October 2026

Choral is a bird song quiz: real recordings of several birds singing at once, and you name every one. It is a small Android app I build on my own (com.growingpeas.birdsong on Google Play). This page says what it keeps, what leaves your phone, and why it asks for each permission. The controller is Lawrenza SRL, trading as Growing Peas; full details are on the legal notice.

What leaves your phone

All recordings, plates and sheets are inside the app: playing needs no connection. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no server of mine. The app contains no third-party tracking code.

What stays on your phone

Android may copy this progress to your Google account with its own app backup, if you turned backup on for your phone, so that it comes back on a new phone.

Permissions

The app never asks for your microphone, your location, your contacts or your files.

Recordings and plates

The bird recordings are field recordings shared under open licences (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA); the plates are old engravings, mostly in the public domain. Every author and licence is listed in the app under Settings, Credits.

Deleting your data

Everything is on your phone, so you delete it there: Settings, Reset in the app, or Settings, Apps, Choral, Storage, Clear storage, or by uninstalling. I hold no copy to delete.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13.
